When it comes to the first dance for your wedding, there is no wrong answer – whatever identifies you as a couple is what you should do. While many couples express that they are nervous about dancing in front of their family and friends, very few are actually judging your dancing. We advise our couples to really enjoy this moment as one of the few during your wedding that you’ll get to be alone as a couple. The vast majority of your wedding reception will include friends, relatives, and sometimes vendors that are both really excited to see you, but asking for just a tiny slice of your time. So, we hope that you savor that first dance together as a married couple.
But, there is always a question of, “What should we dance to?”
There are tons of lists floating around the internet, but one of our favorite categories of great first dances are what we call “Creative Covers.” These are all refreshed versions of songs that you may have known for years. But, in many respects the new take on them can bring fresh life to an otherwise great melody and lyrics that might have felt stale to you.
Here are just four great examples:
Sleeping At Last – Everything Little Thing She Does is Magic
Corinne Bailey Rae – Is This Love?

Adele – Lovesong
Rufus Wainwright – Across the Universe
There are hundreds of other covers that could all be great choices as well. So, if you’ve found a song where the meaning and melody are spot on, but you’d prefer a different feel to the tune… see if someone has a version out there that you might prefer to have featured at your wedding to put a unique spin on your personal soundtrack.
